Huawei Ascend W2 offers Windows Phone 8 option to the masses

Huawei Ascend W2 offers Windows Phone 8 option to the masses

When we talk about Windows Phone 8 devices, most of the time, our minds would shift towards Nokia as the hardware manufacturer of choice (who has since been purchased by Microsoft a few months ago). Of course, Samsung as well as HTC have also engaged themselves in the world of Windows Phone 8 but their smartphone offerings tend to lean more toward the direction of Android. Well, perhaps there is another name for you to consider if you want something different from Android and iOS, and yet do not want to touch the apparent sinking ship of BlackBerry OS, and that would be Huawei with their new Windows Phone 8-powered Huawei Ascend W2.

The Huawei Ascend W2 will bring with it a burst of color to the smartphone experience, where you will be able to choose from a range of vibrant finishes that will include black, blue, yellow, and red shades. Underneath the hood, you will find a Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core 1.4GHz processor, where this new Windows Phone 8 device will not fall short of processing power either, as you should be able to chat, text, game and browse on it without batting an eyelid.

As for the rest of the hardware specifications that will accompany the Huawei Ascend W2, we are looking at a 4.3-inch IPS WVGA LCD screen that delivers a brighter and more vivid display, TFT Magic Touch technology that offers touchscreen responsiveness even when you are wearing a glove, 720P support for video recording and playback, Windows Phone Store support, as well as the ability to hook up to the cloud to be more productive while you are on the go. After all, the Huawei Ascend W2 is synchronized automatically to 7GB of free SkyDrive cloud storage to get you started right out of the box. It will arrive in China first, before making its way to other markets in time to come.

The robot butler that can tend to your every need - even predicting when you want a beer AND pouring it for you

The robot butler that can tend to your every need - even predicting when you want a beer AND pouring it for you

A beer-pouring robot that can read your body movements and anticipate when you want another drink has been developed by American students.

Researchers from Cornell University used Microsoft Kinect sensors and 3D cameras to help the robot analyse its surroundings and identify its owner's needs.

The robot then uses a database of videos showing 120 various household tasks to identify nearby objects, generate a set of possible outcomes and choose which action it should take - without being told. As the actions continue, the robot can constantly update and refine its predictions.

As well as fetching drinks for thirsty owners, the robot can also work out when its owner is hungry and put food in a microwave, tidy up, make cereal, fetch a toothbrush and toothpaste, open fridge doors and more. Ashutosh Saxena, Cornell's professor of computer science and co-author of a new study tied to the research: 'We extract the general principles of how people behave.
'Drinking coffee is a big activity, but there are several parts to it.

The robot builds a 'vocabulary' of such small parts that it can put together in various ways to recognise a variety of big activities.' The robot was initially programmed to refill a person’s cup when it was nearly empty.

To do this the robot had to plan its movements in advance and then follow this plan.

But if a human sitting at the table happens to raise the cup and drink from it, the robot was put off and could end up pouring the drink into a cup that isn’t there.

After extra programming the robot was updated so that when it sees the human reaching for the cup, it can anticipate the human action and avoid making a mistake.

During tests, the robot made correct predictions 82 per cent of the time when looking one second into the future, 71 per cent correct for three seconds and 57 per cent correct for 10 seconds.

Apple’s new iPod touch 16GB gets India pricing

Apple’s new iPod touch 16GB gets India pricing

Apple today sneaked a new 16GB model of the iPod touch without an iSight camera. No press release was issued to announce the product and it simply appeared in Apple’s online stores. While the US store lists the price at $229, there has not been any official announcement about its price in India. However, people familiar with the matter, have confirmed to BGR India that it has been priced at an MRP of Rs 17,800. While it does sound pretty expensive, considering $229 should have meant a price under Rs 15,000, Apple has typically priced iPod touch models on the higher side in India. The $299 iPod touch 32GB for instance is priced at Rs 23,900 in India.

Sources have also confirmed that the iPod touch 16GB variant is likely to be available in the next fortnight or so. On the features front, it features the same 4-inch Retina Display like other variants in the fifth-generation iPod touch as well as an A5 dual-core processor. However, Apple has removed the rear iSight camera though there is a front-facing camera to make FaceTime calls. It can shoot videos in 720p and click pictures at 1.2-megapixel resolution.

The future of glass technology!

The future of glass technology!

Here is another conceptual video created by Corning Incorporated in "A day made of glass." It goes through what would be your typical day scenario waking up at your beautiful luscious estate, by your wife with model good looks, as the photovoltaic glass reveals yet another perfect day in pleasantville. Followed by various interaction with every piece of glass you encounter throughout the day being touch sensitive, electronic enabled displays. This is a novel idea and as for as long as I can remember has been a common representation of the future where all surfaces are interactive. While the concept was focused around the future of glass, I would've loved to see some other future elements incorporated into the video like hovering cars that drive themselves, holographic communication, or omelet ready hybrid bell peppers with infused eggs substitute. How soon do you think this glass future will be a reality, and what future elements would you like to include?

HTC One Nexus release set for June 26: One Nexus vs Samsung Galaxy S4 Nexus

HTC One Nexus release set for June 26: One Nexus vs Samsung Galaxy S4 Nexus

Samsung Galaxy S4 Nexus Vs HTC One Nexus
See, the Galaxy S4 and HTC One have been mainly different for the native user experience and features they offer. In case of Galaxy S4, it is a brilliant handset with some of Samsung’s matchless multimedia, camera and other user-friendly features, for example Smart Pause, Smart Stay, Air Gestures and more. In case of HTC One, this handset has also grabbed name for its innovative Sense 5 and associated features like a BlinkFeed home screen, a new musical experience and more.

When they happen to run on the stock Android version, all these native UI highlights will disappear. They will have almost the same credentials as far as their software aspects are concerned, and they will have to stand apart on the grounds of their little hardware differences. If you look into their hardware, there are three main areas that we can say the S4 and HTC One are somehow different; display size, camera and form factor.

As we noted it above, HTC One has a smaller 4.7-inch FullHD display, meaning that obviously it results in better pixel density. The Galaxy S4 has a 5-inch 1080p screen at a pixel density of 441-ppi, at the same time. Regarding camera, the One has a really wonderful 4MP UltraPixel camera, which, according to HTC is able to take video and pics in better clarity. It is when the S4 sports a 13MP rear camera, which as analyzed by some specialists, works better than the 4MP UltraPixel camera of HTC One.

Finally, design wise, the One has a brilliant and eye-catching design. With its relatively smaller size, the cute design has always become a reason for the device’s public appeal in global markets. The Galaxy S4 is not falling short in form and design aspects, though. It is also featuring a nice look that any customer may fall in love with.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3: Rumored Specs, Release Date, Price Point

Samsung Galaxy Note 3: Rumored Specs, Release Date, Price Point

Following the unexpected success of the Note, Samsung continued the onslaught with the Note II, launching a huge marketing campaign which allowed them to create an ever broader user base. The phone exceeded all expectations and Samsung found themselves with a second hit series, next to their popular Galaxy S devices. In all likelihood, the Galaxy Note 3 will be a step up from the newly released Galaxy S4, which featured a 1080p display and Qualcomm quad-core processor in North America.

Memory
Again, the Korean version of the Galaxy S4 had 3 GB RAM compared to the U.S. 2 GB, and it is not far-fetched to think that Galaxy Note 3 will have same or better.

Storage
It is hard to say what Samsung are going to decide with the Note 3, but it is our guess that this time they are stepping up the internal storage capacity to 32 GB in the U.S. as well, as apps and media content in general are starting to require larger storage space from devices.

Features
Apart from its size, the other major thing that sets the Galaxy Note apart from the Galaxy S series is the S-Pen, Samsung's word for stylus. Although the Galaxy S4 received many of the capabilities of the Note 2 that had previously required a stylus, we guess that Samsung's investment in S-Pen apps will not be thrown out the window, but rather expanded upon to increase productivity in the Note 3.

Release Date
To be announced, but for what it is worth, analysts say the most likely is a release around the same time as the iPhone 5S this year. The carriers that will sell the device are reasonably the top 5, Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and U.S. Cellular.

Price
Price will again be slightly higher than the Galaxy S series

Android “Fairphone” looks to give power back to customers

Android "Fairphone" looks to give power back to customers

The “Fairphone,” a phone that purports to approach smartphone design in the most ethical way possible from every conceivable angle, opened for preorders last Friday. The phone uses only conflict-free resources wherever possible, it has an open design, and it is marketed in a transparent way to customers.

The way many gadgets are made—smartphones and tablets especially—has been called into question by several investigations into supply chains and sources, in particular those of Apple and its Foxconn factories. According to a New York Times report last year, suppliers put out phones hand-assembled by allegedly underage, often underpaid workers operating in unsafe conditions.

The company making the Fairphone purports to be ultra-transparent about its material sourcing and manufacturing process, getting conflict-free materials wherever possible and highlighting unfair practices with a view toward changing them. The phone will feature a Mediatek 6589 quad-core CPU, 4.3-inch qHD display, 8-megapixel camera, 16GB storage, dual-band SIM (GSM850/900/1800/1900MHZ, WCDMA 900/2100MHz), user-replaceable battery, and microSD card slot. It will run Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with a “special interface developed by Kwame Corporation,” which the company notes is “also open.”

While we are a bit skeptical that a small company looking to assemble and ship 5,000 phones will be able to have much impact on the gargantuan gadget supply chains in place, the desire to give users as much control over hardware and software as possible is something to be welcomed. The phone will initially be available only in Europe, priced at a flat €325 ($418). Production will begin once 5,000 preorders are in place, with shipments to begin in the fall.

Transparent Apple iPad Concept

Transparent Apple iPad Concept

Do you like it?

Apple’s iPad has become one of the most popular gadgets to ever hit the technology scene, and thanks to out of the box thinkers we are able to see our favorite tablet in a transparent form.

Whilst it might be nothing more than a concept at this time, the Transparent Apple iPad is one we’d love to see become a reality. Designed by Ricardo Afonso, the device is essentially an ultra sleek transparent version of the current iPad, with a few refinements. Seeing how popular the camera feature has become on the device, Afonso kept intact near the top of the unit, and who would want an iPad without music? The speakers are built in right behind the power button, but the best feature is the fact that individuals behind you would not have the ability to see what’s appearing on your screen. Privacy while still being transparent.

Apple’s “iWatch” Wrist-Device Coming to Stores in Late 2014

Apple’s “iWatch” Wrist-Device Coming to Stores in Late 2014

According to analysts, the wearable digital device by Apple termed the “iWatch” will be very useful indeed. But it is not expected to enter the electronics market soon. More than a year remains before the full-fledged version comes out. Till then consumers are waiting with bated breath for the high-tech heavenly contraption to arrive on the scene. Currently Apple lacks the necessary components for creating an iWatch. Therefore manufacturing of this object of desire will be delayed till the year 2014.

Moreover, Apple is probably going to opt for a wrist-device instead of glasses as reported in 9to5Mac. At least, it will consider the iWatch before it comes out with the glasses. Google Glass has already set the world on fire with its wearable technology in the form of a pair of spectacles with a whole computer fitted right in the viewing space. Apple too wants to do something for the first time. Its purchase of certain parts has been seen as a move towards making an iWatch some time in the near future.

Among some of the special features of the wrist watch are the phone call-receiving capability and message service. Social network reminders and missives too count in the set of resources. Finally there are several modules that have to do with health-related statistics. Vital signs may be monitored via this device. The usage of iPod’s Touch-based Nanotechnology will get center stage in the iWatch. A 1.5 inch OLED display screen is to feature in the making of the wrist-wrap.
